A special treat for 101 area children...
The New Americans Museum partnered with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to provide a special treat for 101 area children who received their certificates of citizenship on January 20, 2009 – Inauguration Day. The Museum came alive with an important step in the immigration process for these newest Americans. The U.S. citizens, ranging in age from less than one year old to 18 years old, represented many countries, including: Afghanistan, Australia, Belarus, Burma, Cambodia, Canada, China, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Sudan, UAE, and Vietnam. The ceremony and program was designed to accompany the exhibition, Between Cultures: Children of Immigrants in America, Photo Documentary by Gina Grillo.

From Haven to Home is created by the American Jewish Historical Society, located at the Center for Jewish History in New York and on the campus of Hebrew College in Newton, Ma. and brought to San Diego by the AJHS in partnership with the New Americans Museum, with assistance from the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture.
